ConnieConnie stayed quiet for a long minute or so while it seemed like Dare was struggling with something internally. A lot of memories had been brought up in the last few days, it really did make you think. Reassess things in your life.
His voice was quiet when he finally spoke. Connie ran a hand through his hair, he didn't look up at her. It wasn't easy for him she knew. Family was everything to him, it had all been ripped away from him in some fashion. That's why he was in New Orleans. He was trying to get some of that back, he needed someone. Funny that he'd come to reach out to Ilani and ended up with Connie in his lap instead.
Connie smiled, coming back around from her own thoughts as she heard him thank her for sticking up for him. He finally raised his head up to look at her when there was a knock on the door. Connie sighed. Shaking her head as he moved off to go let the guy in. Folding her arms over her chest she had to bite her lip to keep from laughing out loud at the little man who showed up.
Keeping her mouth shut she let Dare do his thing. He slipped easily into his gangbanger persona. After some quiet and quick conversation, along with some testosterone fueled chest thumping the details seemed to be settled and Dare was pulling her out the door. Walking at a brisk pace he pulled her into an alley. Telling her he wanted to make sure everything went down as planned.
Connie watched as Dare leaned against the wall. His face looked like it was weighing the pros and cons of saying something. She moved to stand in front of him as he began to speak. “What you said before? About the…weird shit?” He said suddenly, turning to look at her again. “It’s…hard to explain. But..uh…well, it’s kinda like this. My ma, she was from the reservation; you met her, so it’s pretty obvious. And…uh…well, for the last couple months, I’ve been able to do…shit. Weather shit. I get real angry, anxious or…uh…other things, and…uh…er…it rains. A lot. Like the storm before.” Connie kept her eyes locked on his. Listening to him carefully as he told her his secret. Something she knew he had not told anyone else. When he finished Connie gave a little half-smile, she could see he was preparing himself for a reaction. She raised her eyebrows. "Is that it? Seriously? And here I thought you were going to tell me you were the son of some big gangster who was psychotic and had a crazy sister that would shoot you faster than you could blink." Stepping in closer to him she grinned. Touching his hair she leaned in and kissed his cheek softly before she pulled back. Taking a deep breath before she spoke again. "Baby... I actually think it's pretty cool. Like you said, I DID know your mother. She used to talk to me you know... when I brought Maria over when she was a baby. Your ma would tell me stories. It's part of her culture, I never thought it was that far fetched." Pausing for a moment, still looking into his eyes. A mischievous smirk spread across her lips as she had a thought. This could be very interesting indeed. She took another step closer, now just a few inches separating them. "So... I'll bet if you worked on it, you could control it. It's tied to your feelings right? Maybe if we tried a little experiement... I think I can get the feelings part going for you if you work on bringing out the rain." Leaning in Connie let her lips brush against his neck. Her body lightly pressed into his now. She let her lips trail up to his ear and she whispered. "What do you think? I bet it's a powerful feeling... Like electricity flowing through you... It's not unlike another feeling I can think of. Am I wrong about that?" Connie backed off just a tiny bit. Tilting her head down she watch her hands as she brought them up and started to unbutton her blouse, letting it hang open when she was done. Peering back up at him she moved her hands to slide under his shirt, feeling his bare skin she moved in close again. "How about this? Is it working for you?" Her voice was low and husky now. She let her hands wander over his body, her lips found his mouth and her body pressed hard into him. Moving slowly she rubbed herself against him. One leg she let hook onto his hip. "Come on baby... I wanna make love in the rain, scream your name and hear the thunder answer me back. I know you can do it."

Oh, holy shit, look at that. With surprise practically flashing in neon yellow on his face, Dare couldn’t help but stare at her as a smile broke onto her face. She wasn’t…she wasn’t freaking out. Or saying that he needed some help. She wasn’t confused, angry, scared…hell, she was taking this so much better than HE did, the first time he made it rain.
Hell, if anything, she should at least be questioning his sanity. Didn’t he do that, in the beginning? He’d gone to a doctor, for chrissakes, to see if he had any brain tumors making him hallucinate—
But damn, right then, there was only one thing rising to the occasion, and it wasn’t a happy tumor. Arms coming instinctively around hers as she came closer, Dare could feel the little hairs on the back of his neck stand at attention. His hands slid to her waist, pulling her hard up against him as he looked down between them at the little peep show she’d initiated.
JESUS, there was a reason why he loved this woman. Forget the fact that she knew what kind of a monster he was and could give a shit; she was the only person on this good earth who would listen to his saying ‘I can control the weather’ and thinking of sex. Talk about a soul mate.
With a groan, he let his hands trail down to the soft skin of her stomach, then moved upward. “Is it working?” He ground out, eyes flashing as he looked down at her. “Baby, I just told you that I could control the frikken weather and you're coming onto me."
As he spoke, his hands growing bolder despite their only partially hidden position, the sky above began to darken. When his lips turned to tail along the sweet curve of her neck, a peal of thunder rumbled above, and at the feeling of those cool fingers against the bare skin under his shirt, the the sky let loose a blanket of drizzle. God, feeling both her and the normal zing of excitement that came with his abilities, he was just about ready to go crazy right then. With another groan, he pushed closer to her, pressing aching part of himself against her as he pulled her leg higher on his hip.
"The last time we made love," He growled into her ear, tongue slipping out to run along the edge. "It took all of my control to stop a tsunami. Around you...there's only so much control. Push me too far, and we'll drown."

(things start to get a little steamy here. if you don't like that kind of thing don't read it.) ConnieConnie was silently thankful that she was wearing a skirt. As heated as things were getting, if it continued much farther pants would just be damn awkward. Hearing the thunder, then seconds later she felt the rain drops start falling. The smile on her face grew wider. There was a devilish look in her eyes as she met his gaze. "The last time we made love,"
"It took all of my control to stop a tsunami. Around you...there's only so much control. Push me too far, and we'll drown." Jerking her head sideways she flipped her hair off her shoulders, then tilted her head and arched her back. Letting the rain fall down on her face and her partially exposed upper body. Her hips rolled forward, grinding harder against him. She could feel his body respond to her. The feeling was amazing, exhilarating, down right thrilling to be honest.
After a few moments she found herself facing him again. Their bodies held tightly together. She pressed her lips to his in a passionate kiss, let her tongue explore his soft warm mouth before she bit his lower lip teasingly as she broke away from the kiss.
Her hands continued to wander under his shirt, gliding up his back, now grasping his shoulders. She could feeling his body practically humming with energy. Whether that was from her stimulating him sexually or the power he was using to conjure up the thunderstorm around them, she didn't know, she didn't care, she just knew she liked it. She was lost in the feeling, the excitement of the moment. The intimacy they were sharing in a semi-public place only added to the tangle of emotions she was feeling.
Leaning in she couldn't help herself, the words just kind of tumbled out. "I love you, baby." A sigh of contentment escaped her as she let her head fall into the crook of his neck. It took a few moments for her to realize what she had said. She couldn't take it back, not that she wanted to, it was the truth. It was Dare's reaction to it that she wasn't sure about. She lifted her head up and looked at him. "I said that out loud didn't I?" Connie chewed on her lip, resting her forehead against his closing her eyes for a few seconds as she took a deep breath. "I'm sorry. I can't help it Dare. I've loved you since we first met. Silly teenage girl that I was, I knew then. Crazy and twisted our lives may be, it's just the way it is. No matter what happens, I think I'll always love you." Connie didn't want to clutter it with babble so she stopped talking. She let herself relax into him. Her body still wrapped around him.

Turning them with a grown, he just managed to cup the back of her head before it could smack against the brick behind him. Using the new leverage to his advantage, he let his free hand slide along newly exposed skin for a moment before a grin broke out on his face.
Letting his hand drop from her leg, he reached into his back pocket. Eyes on her face, he took out the switchblade inside, flipping it open with a quick, practiced ease. The storm raged above, flashing lighting across the sky and crashing thunder through the normally quiet atmosphere. The combination of the storm, leftover adrenaline and the feeling of that sweet body pressed so close to his was enough to make him turn teenager and end their game before it could get interesting. Thank God for self control, or he’d have had to beat his head against the wall.
As if mirroring the turmoil above their heads, Dare’s eyes practically glowed. A mischievous look on his face, he let the flat of the blade slide against the bare expanse of her outer leg. He moved it higher and to the side, almost caressing her thigh and ran his lips along the sweet curve of her neck. Any other woman would have freaked out by now, or started wondering if he was about to do a Jack the Ripper on their asses…but hell, Connie was different. She got him, he got her, and they were both having way too much fun with their little ‘experiment.’
With a Cheshire Cat smile still on his face, he kissed a trail across her neck, tongue flicking out to lap at the rain pooling downward. The blade continued its trail upwards until he reached the fabric of her panties, and with one little controlled flick, the fabric flitted to the pavement beneath them.
There was no turning back now. The storm, that look of lust in her eyes…God, he was lost in it all. With another guttural groan, he made short work of his pants and boxers, adjusting her legs around his waist and positioning her just right. He locked his eyes on hers, switchblade falling to the ground in a way that would make his inner con scream in horror, and thrust inside of her with an almost animalistic sound.
And God, how those words made something in him, for lack of a better word, soar. Cupping her face in his hands, he pressed a tender kiss to her lips. “You think, huh?” He managed to growl, grinning as he ground against her. “I guess I’ve gotta work harder in the future, huh? Connie Pancero…the annoying, hard headed, stubborn, spitfire woman. I was born to love you, and I will always love you.”

ConnieConnie was in heaven. She couldn't help but smirk when the knife came out, a small whimper of pleasure as the cold blade touched her skin. She knew his intentions. His response to her declaration of love was more than she could have hoped for and it just heightened the experience.
Gawd... Damn... The feeling was like nothing else as he took her right there. Her back pressed into the wall, tilting her head back to rest against the rough bricks. She made good on her promise by screaming his name and the resounding thunder that responded pushed her further over the edge and right into the throes of ecstasy
As the storm raged around them the passion raged between them. When it finally got to the point where neither of them could hold back any longer things seemed to explode around them. As their bodies let go with their own release the storm intensified. Lightning flashed in the sky, thunder cracked loudly, the rain turned into a down pour.
Then just as the two lovers heated passion became softer and more loving, the weather followed their lead. The thunder quieted, the lightning stopped and the rain turned into a very soft mist that drizzled over them.
Connie's arms rested on Dare's shoulders, her hand clasped behind his neck. Her legs were still locked around his waist. She let her lips kiss him softly. Then she let them wander lazily down his neck.
Taking in a deep breath she leaned back against the wall again. A huge smile on her face, the smile turned into a chuckle and finally a full boisterous laugh that over took her. "We are fucking insane, but I wouldn't have it any other way. There is no way you can deny that what just happened wasn't anything but frickin' AMAZING." Connie paused for a moment, still trying to catch her breath. Her body still twitching a little in the aftermath. She licked her lips as she looked at Dare. Letting her head rest against his, she smiled again. "My own personal little rainmaker. I love it." Pulling his face closer to her she kissed him again. Letting it linger for a few moments before they broke apart. Then carefully she unwound her legs from him and stood on the ground. Pulling her skirt down, smoothing and adjusting it so it didn't look like they had just had wild crazy sex in the alley.
As Dare worked on getting his pants back in order, Connie bent down and picked up his switchblade. Then used the blade to pick up her shredded panties. With a little grin she tucked the panties into the front pocket of his jeans. Flipping the blade closed she slipped that into his back pocket, taking the opportunity to let her hand grab his ass.
Lean back onto the wall once more she pulled him with her. Keeping him close. She couldn't resist kissing him as she spoke sporadically around the kissing. "I think we need to get back to the hotel. I can hear that big soft bed calling our names from here. Plus, we have about... Oh let's see... about 10 MILLION things to talk about and decide what to do with. Not to mention Maria. We need to get some things sorted out before we get her back. Whatever is going to happen between us, I want her to have a home to come back to. Even with all the crazy that is our lives, I want her to know happiness and love and I know we have that... Or at least we had it once." Grinning at him she shook her head. She knew all he really wanted to do right now was let his body slip into a post sex coma. Taking his hand she brought it to her lips and kissed it. Then intertwined her fingers in his. "Let's go. Let's get the hell out of here."

Amazing? Amazing couldn’t even BEGIN to describe how he felt in that moment, intimate release coupled with the exhilaration of the storm. For a minute, as Connie leaned her head against his, he could swear that his eyes were crossed. With a groan as she pulled away, he halfheartedly tried to tug her back, snagging one last kiss before cleaning himself up.
“God, you’re a strange woman,” He growled playfully, swatting at her behind as she bent to grab the shredded fabric on the pavement, and the offending blade. “I tell you that I’m some kind of warped X-Men reject, and you ‘love it.’ Did I mention that you’ve officially ruined me for all other women?”
On legs that he was stubbornly refusing to acknowledge as being as wobbly as they were, he tugged her close to his side as they made their way out of the alley and back onto the street. He was so damn tempted to return the butt grabbing show with a possessive one of his own, but given that she was wearing a skirt, decided that he’d be nice.
…And make himself happy by glowering and silently snarling at anyone who’s eyes stayed too long on his woman. Damn, they’d just walked out of a murder and a cover-up, and all he wanted to do was stake a claim on his wife. Talk about a really messed up world that they lived in.
As the hotel came into view, he couldn’t help but tug her to a stop. The normal pedestrian traffic surged around them, but he ignored it with a practiced ease. His arms went around her waist as he kissed her again, running his tongue over the seam of her lips. “I bet I could make you forget about talking…” He murmured through a kiss, lips tilting in a devilish smile.
And, for the next few hours, he was the proud owner of a truthful statement. If the two of them said anything after their little spring upstairs- the two of them looked like drowned rats, and the entire hotel staff had to know what’s up, as they practically attacked each other in the elevator…but hell, he could give two farts about what other people thought- it was merely unintelligible yelling and the howling of each others’ names.
Probably more Connie’s than his own, now that he thought about it. He’d never really been one to make noise…but hot damn, if the random thumping from the rooms around them was anything to go by, he was obviously taking a turn for the worse.
The room smelled of food and sex, and Dare was quite the happy puppy, lying on his back with a plate of fries resting on his tattooed stomach. A sheet had been thrown over the more satisfied parts of his anatomy, and a lazy grin was on his face as he watched his wife from his prone position on the bed.
“Did I mention that there’s nothing better than after-sex binging?” He asked with a Cheshire Cat grin, holding out a fry for her to take. “But…while I’m still recovering, maybe we should chip away at those ‘ten thousand’ things you were talking about before. You know me and debt.”
Crossing his arms under his head, he sighed. God, he could just picture his daughter’s face in his mind’s eye, and a ball of both excitement and dread built in his stomach. How she must have changed…and how she must think of him. Maria was only a baby when her parents split, and how much she hated him was up in the air. He glanced sideways at his wife. Was she lying when she’d said she’d kept his memory clean? That his daughter still wanted her father back?
Shoving another fry in his face as he felt his muscles tighten, he couldn’t help but grumble. “Damn, this’ why I hate talking about the future. I love you, you love me, Maria’s comin’ here to be with us. What the hell else is there to talk about? Ray’s dead, the gang’s back east…can’t we just take this by the seat of our pants, Con? We used to be pretty good at it, once upon a time.”

ConnieConnie grinned happily as they made their way out of the alley and walked back to the hotel. She found his comment about, "Did I mention that you’ve officially ruined me for all other women?” amusing. Smirking at that, she certainly hoped that was true because she couldn't be held responsible if she found him with another woman after all this. Giving him a quirked eyebrow look that she hoped conveyed that message clearly.
As they walked she realized that she was soaking wet, in more ways than one; had on a short skirt with no underwear, her legs were still a bit shaky, but she felt good. Way better than a person who just killed another human being (if you could call Ray a human being) should feel. She suspected that at some point she would have to deal with it but that wasn't right now. Right now she was happy and content.
They made it to the hotel room finally without jumping each other. Not for lack of trying though. Dare was working hard to keep her mind off the talking thing. Truth be told she wasn't fighting him very hard on that. She was actually enjoying it.
Once they got into the room though, all bets were off. Clothes went flying and that soft comfy bed was put to good use. The thought occurred to her that she'd had more sex in the last few days than she'd had in the last six years. What was it about this man that drove her crazy that way? Connie knew it was more than just physical with him and that's what made it more intense. She couldn't help but sigh as they ended up collapsed in a heap on the bed.
At some point, room service was called and arrived shortly thereafter. Connie had slipped on one of Dare's shirts as he lounged on the bed eating french fries. She picked at some food on the room service cart and munched happily. Turning to look at Dare when she heard his voice. She plopped herself back down on the bed next to him and took the offered french fry in her teeth, then pulled it into her mouth with her tongue while keeping her eyes locked on Dare.
Smiling she was a bit surprised when Dare actually brought up the subject of talking. She watched him as he was obviously thinking about something. Then the familiar Dare cropped up. Wondering what there was to talk about, just wanting things to be simple and clear cut. Unfortunately that wasn't the case, rarely it ever was.
Connie ran her hands through her hair. She wanted it to be easy and simple just as much as he did. Hell, if it was just the two of them she would have been the first one in line for that option. The fact was it wasn't just them. There was Maria involved too, that was when Connie had to take things seriously. It was something that Dare wasn't used to. Letting out a long sigh she began to respond. "Yeah... Maria. That's just it. Maria. What are we gonna do? Live here in the hotel with her? I'm not bringing my daughter to live in a hotel. Is that what you want for her? We can go home maybe? But, what's going to happen there? We have to think about Maria. It's not just you and me." Pausing, she sucked in a deep breath and let it out slowly. Honestly, she didn't know what to do either. It would be nice to just be able to do whatever the hell they wanted. But, Maria wasn't a baby anymore. They couldn't just play while she was sleeping in her crib or visiting grandma and grandpa. She needed a place to live, she had to go to school. "I want you to be happy Dare, I really do. If we're going to do this together, I want it to work this time. I don't want you staying away... avoiding us because you don't want to bring home your 'job'. I've always accepted who you were. I can deal with it. As far as Maria goes... We don't have to tell her EVERYTHING. I want her to have options though. I don't want the street and the gang to be all she has to look forward to. We have all that money now. We can do whatever we want. Make a real life for her. Even if we aren't perfect we can still give her the chance at something better than we ever got." Connie clamped her mouth shut. She was starting to ramble. Starting to sound like she was complaining. She wasn't. Her life was what it was. She was OK with that. Especially now. Even though it was pretty insane, she and Dare did seem destined to be together. They belonged together in some weird way. That was all good as far as she was concerned.
Connie had always done her best at being a mother though. Her daughter was not going to end up with a mom who worked in a bar, got drunk and brought home men like they were groceries. Sometimes her mother had shooed her out of the apartment because she didn't want the new 'man' to know she had a kid. Even now, Connie imagined her mother was still trying to convince some guy at a bar that she was 27. The thought made Connie cringe. Hell no, her daughter deserved more than that. "All I'm saying is that we have the money now to do anything we want. Live anywhere we want. We can take care of Maria... We can be a family."

They could be a family…God, five little words that he’d longed to hear for so damn long, since his brother was killed and the family fell apart. He’d loved them so much, tried to fill up that empty feeling with his wife’s pretty face…those noises she made when she was passed the point of ecstasy…the angelic laugh of his daughter as he tickled her belly…
He’d give anything for a chance at the happiness she was hinting at. But…give up the gang? His home? His friends, his reputation…his FATHER? Sure, the man had done nothing to help his son, other than to teach him the ways of the cold, hard world…but loyalty was strong in Dare, and the thought of moving away smelled like betrayal.
Yet, his first instinct was to protect his wife and daughter. A life on the street hadn’t worked for them before…and now that Maria was getting older, that Connie had tasted her first mouth full of blood…it was quite obvious that nothing had changed. And the thought of his daughter growing up beside some of the kids that he’d seen on the streets, hell, that he’d lived with for half of his life…people like HIM? It made his skin crawl and a swell of protectiveness practically surge in his chest. But, at the same time, the thought of leaving his home was just as daunting.
With a sigh, he sat up slowly, putting the plate of fries on the bed between them. Oh, how he wanted to give into the surge of lust that reared its head as she slid the food between her lips, but he knew that there was only so much running that a man could do. Shoving a hand through his shaggy hair, he shook his head.
“God…I dunno, Con,” He said after a minute. “Part of me wants to buy you a white picket fence right here in New Orleans and leave the gang behind. But…they’re my family too. It feels like some kind of…betrayal, if I leave them.”
At the same time, however, imagining himself sitting peacefully on some back porch, Connie at his side and Maria playing happily with other kids, good kids, it was enough to make him pause. He wanted the best life he could provide for his family, and going back to day in and day out working for his father, jacking cars and kicking ass on command…damn, it hadn’t worked the first time around. The best thing for Connie and Maria would probably be to stay where they were, find somewhere to live and put all that stolen money to good use.
“But it makes more sense for us to stay here,” He went on, and suddenly rolled over so that he could trap her between his arms. Dark eyes shimmered slightly as he looked at her, a distant rumble sounding outside. “Because you and Maria are what’s important to me. Not the Butchers or what my father wants…just the two of you. And I know that if we go back, Pops will try to use me, stick me back in the pen and manipulate the both of you if he could. So…we should stay here.”
Jaw clenching, he let his head droop down slightly, burying himself in her scent as if to ward off the tightness in his chest. Dare Buchannon was an enemy of change; he hated it as much as he hated his life, sometimes. And change like this…it was overwhelming. But a primitive part of his brain practically demanded that he protect his family, and to do so meant leaving The Butchers and New York altogether.
A thought came to him, and he couldn’t help but conjure up a grin. “Hell, we have enough money to start our own casino…and maybe a chop to boot. Buy us a place here, where we could raise Maria away from my father and the life. You’re already a dealer by trade, and I know security…damn, it’d be too easy to set up a joint around here.”

ConnieConnie watched him as he was quiet for a few minutes. She was pretty sure she knew what was going through his mind. If anyone knew him well enough to know what he was thinking it was Connie. They had been through a lot together and even when they were apart there was something that bound them together. It most likely wasn't a coincidence that neither one of them had ever even filed for a divorce. After over six years of being estranged. Sub-consciously there had to be a reason for that.
As Dare sat up she took the plate and set it on the room service cart. More than anything she wanted them to be able to live their lives. They just needed a chance without the pressure of poisonous outside influences, like a psychotic father-in-law. She knew he was thinking about loyalty and betrayal. But where should your loyalties truly lie? A father that manipulates you, keeps you down. A man who has no interest in seeing his own son happy. The gang who's loyalty was based in fear and convenience. All Connie had ever wanted was her husband to come home at night.
Connie could hear the conflict in the tone of his voice. She rubbed her forehead and nodded. His family... betrayal. He kept talking and she listened. It was like he was trying to sort it out as he spoke. He moved and put his arms around her, she slid down on the bed so she was laying next to him. Clenching her jaw tightly she tried to steel herself but she couldn't hold back the silent tears that started to fall. "I'm sorry Dare. I know you hate when I cry. I'm just frustrated. I know this isn't easy." Taking in deep breath she tried to just keep herself on an even keel. The tears were still there but she wasn't hysterical or anything like that. It was just confusion. Not knowing what to do. "Baby... I never expected or even wanted that white picket fence. That's not who we are or ever will be I don't think. I haven't been home in more than six years. You think I don't know how it feels. But... maybe your sending me away was the best thing that could have happened. I learned some things." Connie paused for a moment with a heavy sigh. Looking over at him she tried to smile. It may have been hard but it was the truth. "When I first got to AC, it wasn't easy. But, it was just me and Maria. I didn't... Not until... and that was... Well I told you already. The point is... When it was just me and Maria, I was happy. When it was you and me, I was happy, you me and Maria, I was happy. And you're right. That IS what is important." Connie cradled his head in her arms when he nuzzled into her. Kissing the top of his head, tears still slowly trickling down her cheeks. Making that decision not to go back to New York was huge for him. Connie knew he was making a big leap, after everything he was choosing her and she was grateful for it. It was a second chance she never thought she'd get.
Holding him for a few moments she was surprised when he lifted his head up and had a grin on his face. Connie sat back and looked at him. When he started speaking she shook her head and couldn't help but smirk back at him. "Honey... I WAS NOT just a dealer. I started out as a dealer. But baby, I RAN five casinos. Day to day operations were all on me. How the HELL do you think I was able to get 10 million dollars out of there? Shit, if I hadn't left I doubt Ray would have ever found out about the money. I was THAT GOOD." The mood had suddenly changed. It sounded good to her. It seemed like an actual plan. Something that they could do. Between the two of them they had the connections, the know how and the money. Now if they could just pull everything together, get them a place and bring home Maria for Christmas, Connie would be a happy camper.
The tears were all gone now. Connie practically squee'd and bounced with excitement. With a wide grin on her face she flung herself at Dare, wrapping her arms around him and kissing him hard. For the first time in a long time she had some hope that things were going her way for once.
(You can respond if you have something you want to say and close this out... or you can start something new in The Underground like we talked about. Dare surprising her with the place or whatever you wanna do.)

Dare laughed, watching his wife bounce on the bed with something akin to wary amusement. God, how he wanted to take hold of his wife’s excitement with both hands and start celebrating as well…but his father’s face hovered in the back of his mind, and the only thing he could feel was cautious dread. As she leapt on him, however, he forced all of the thoughts from his mind, pulling her close with a wide grin. His wife was happy, looking like a little kid again. Her face wasn’t creased with concern or guilt about the life she’d taken. She was care free, reminding him so much of the spirited imp who’d captured his heart all those years ago. And for good or worse, whatever lurked in the future, he would keep her that way. Pretty women deserved to be happy, after all. With a fond little smile, he brushed stray hairs from her face and pulled her down into his arms. “I’ve seen how good you are firsthand, baby,” He drawled, kissing her back with a smile curling his lips. “Everything’s gonna work out. With the both of us together…it can’t do nothin’ but work out.” CONTINUED IN Christmas Miracles
