Having finally had her fill of her ghostly trio trying to marry her off to the first guy who walked through the doors of the book shop, Madison Sinclair had put on her dancing shoes and headed out for a night on the town. It was Saturday night and she was tired of sitting around the shop doing nothing but she wasn't in the mood for the loud thumping music of the main beat clubs so she drove around until she saw what looked like a decent, middle classed bar.
Pulling her little VW bug up outside the wooden porch, the petite little southern beauty exited the vehicle and headed up the steps. Light filtered out through the doors as she peeked in but it looked like a nice enough place so she opened the door and stepped inside. Moving to the bar, she slide on to a stool and then gave a quick look around before being glad she had dressed casually in jeans and a football jersey. The patrons of the place reminded her of a bunch of good ol boys with hunting permits. Most of them wore baseball caps and boots while drinking beer from Mason jars.
Feeling right at home with the country music blaring from the jukebox, Maddie saw an older woman approach and give her a look.
"What can I get you, hon?" she asked.
"Ummm Just a budlight, please?" Maddie returned before glancing above the bar where a TV blasted 24/7 news. She found that a bit odd but didn't say anything as the woman slid the beer in front of her and then gave her the total. Paying her quickly, the young woman grinned as she spied the baby pictures pasted to the cash register.
"Oh.. how adorable... Twins?"
Nodding, the older woman cast her a look over her shoulder and smiled.
"My grand babies.. Tessa and Jacob. They belong to my daughter and her husband, Curse. THey own this place."
Nodding, the young woman smiled.
"Well, they are absolutely adorable.. You must be so proud."
"I am.. would you like to see more pictures? I'm Ellen Harvelle by the way."
Taking the hand extended to her, Maddie laughed.
"I'm Madison Sinclair. I own a rare bookstore down town and just happened to stumble across this place.... and I would LOVE to see more pictures!"
Smiling, the older woman whipped out a small album and Madison oohed and awed over the babies properly for the next half hour or so before the other woman was pulled away. Content to sip her beer, Maddie was tapping her foot to the music as she watched the news. (Ellen used with permission)

Andrew pulled into the Silver Bullet's parking lot in his muddy 1988 ford ranger. Turning off the engine, he glanced down at his blood soaked shirt. ‘Doubt they will let me in looking like this...’ He thought to himself with a slight frown. The hunter had just returned from a job that involved one pissed off Werewolf and an unsuspecting elementary school. To say it went smoothly would be a huge understatement. Andy suffered a nice punch in the face, causing a busted lip, and a pretty torn up shoulder. Most of the blood being absorbed into his shirt was his own.
With great caution he began to remove his flannel shirt, but the fabric was sticking to the gashes in his shoulder. “Dammit!” He yelled out in pain until the shirt was finally off. Andy absently tossed it on the passenger seat. Glancing down at his quite severe wounds, the hunter let out an annoyed grumble. Oh how he despised anything and everything supernatural at the given moment. Reaching behind his seat, he pulled a clean cotton t-shirt out of his duffel bag and put it on. He soon slipped out of his truck. Once his boots hit the gravel of the parking lot his head started to spin from blood loss. Andy's body swayed like a tree ready to fall causing him to grip the mirror of his truck for support.
‘I’m sure I will be fine, I just need a freakin' beer.’ He tried to reassure himself. Slowly he made his way into the Silver Bullet Bar. The hunter came to a stop in the doorway while his blue eyes scanned the various faces. When he was satisfied no one noticed his injures, nor were they going to kick him out, he walked up to the bar. He let out a barely notable sigh, the kind most people make after a crappy day at work. Sitting down on a stool, he glanced over to his right to see a stunning little blond sipping on a bud. It lifted his spirits almost immediately. “Howdy, miss.” He greeted her with a charming smile.
Being the polite southerner that Andy was, he always acknowledged the presence of a woman. His blue eyes shifted to one of the approaching bartenders. “I’ll have what she’s havin’, please.” He asked politely. The bartender nodded and handed him a cold budlight. As he lifted the glass and took that first refreshing sip, his attention wandered onto the television that blasted the daily news.

Lost in her own thoughts, Maddie didn't bother to turn around when the sound of the front door opening and closing echoed in the room. The news station was telling about some mysterious slaying in the area and warning everyone to stay inside at night if possible. More and more creepy things had been happening and the police were on full alert. Frowning a bit, the young woman took a drink of her longneck and then glanced sideways as a man stepped up to the bar and took a seat. When he glanced her way, she caught the most gorgeous set of blue eyes she'd ever seen along with a sexy pair of dimples.
“Howdy, miss.”
Smiling back, Maddie nodded her head by way of greeting and then watched as he turned to the bartender. She didn't mean to stare, truly she didn't but there was only so much temptation a girl could take. He was definitely the cutest thing she'd seen since she'd grown up enough to notice the opposite sex. When he talked, his voice had that slow, easy cadence that southern gentleman prided themselves on and it did something to her middle.
“I’ll have what she’s havin’, please.”
Hiding a grin, Maddie took another drink of her beer and then reached for a bucket of peanuts that lined the bar. Pulling it to her, she shift until she could set it between them and then grabbed a handful to eat. Her eyes twinkled as she ordered another beer and then gave him a covert look.
"You look a bit worn out.... Long day at the office?" she said by way of a flirtatious grin.

Catching sight of the blondes beautiful warm smile, Andy was almost able to forget about the problems in his life. He took another slow sip from his drink while beginning to think that maybe his day would end well after all. What more could a guy ask for than a cold beer and the company of a gorgeous woman? Just then a sharp burning pain ran down the hunters arm. His hand motioned into a tight fist as he winced slightly. It was truly a miracle that he hadn’t already passed out. Andrew wasn’t the type to openly complain and there was that tiny problem of how he now had an embarrassing phobia of all hospitals. So really his only option was to sit down, shut up, and have a beer.
"You look a bit worn out.... Long day at the office?"
He turned and met the young woman’s gaze. Her flirtatious grin was enough to numb his rising level of pain; she was such a sight for sore eyes. “Oh, like you wouldn’t believe.” He responded with a slight smile. “Got into this nasty fight with a--” The hunter stopped himself there. He eyed the pretty blond for a moment; she didn’t look like a hunter. He stalled while trying to come up with an alternative response. He couldn’t exactly tell her how he just slayed a Werewolf and received one hell of beating in the process. Andy could see that she still held that blissfully unaware of all the things that go bump in the night look. If she didn’t know about the horror of the supernatural then he wanted to keep it that way, for her sake. “--with my boss, at the office, where I work.” He managed to awkwardly finish his sentence.
Taking a big gulp of his beer, he quickly looked away and back to the TV screen. He hated lying in general and especially to women, but he believed in this moment it was the right thing to do. Andy couldn’t help but wonder if she would see right through his bluff. Without warning the room began to spin and that familiar red hue started to seep through his cotton t-shirt. He glanced at the blond sitting beside him with a weak look in his icy blue eyes, he was officially ready to pass out. It was a shame too, he hadn’t even gotten her name yet.
Rising to his feet, the injured hunter quickly slapped some money on the bar. “Sorry I have to leave ya so soon, I was really enjoying your company.” He said with a forced smile before slowly making his way to the door while gripping his shoulder in pain. At this point all eyes were on him. Then it happened, he heard someone mention calling 911 and the word hospital. The usually calm and collected southerner felt his heart start to pound in his chest with anxiety. His pace quickened, it was time to make a run for it. There was no way in hell he was going to some hospital again. However, his weakened body wouldn’t even let him get to the door. Andrew ended up stumbling into a corner where he rested his back against the wall. “I don’t need any damn hospital. There’s no need to panic people!” His words were ironic seeing as he was panicking himself.
Lowering his hand from his shoulder, he stared at the blood that now covered it. “Damn…” He mumbled softly. Andrew allowed his back to slide down the wall until his bottom hit the floor. His eyes closed slightly as his head tilted down and he drifted out of consciousness for a brief moment.

As the man explained about his fight with his boss, Maddie hid a grin as he bypassed his original sentence. In her mind she figure he was going to call the man some foul tempered name but had chosen to change it at the last moment due to her being a lady.
"Yeah.. Boss's can be real jerks" she said with a teasing note as she sipped her beer and then cast the news channel an absent look since she didn't figure staring at him like he was a cookie she wanted to goggle up was appropriate.
“Sorry I have to leave ya so soon, I was really enjoying your company.”
Startled, Maddie looked back at the man in time to see him get up and walk passed her. A frown cluttered her brow as she watched him and then her eyes fastened on the bright red liquid that seemed to be dripping grotesquely from his left side. People were starting to mutter and the bartender, Ellen, had already reached for the phone by the time the mans words rang through the bar.
“I don’t need any damn hospital. There’s no need to panic people!”
Horror filled her as she realized what it was and jumped from her stool just in time to see him stumble and then right himself for a few more steps before crumpling into the wall. Men were on their feet and moving in the gentlemans direction but she pushed her petite frame through the mass to drop to her knees beside him. His eyes were dilated unnaturally and his shoulder clear down to his arm seemed to be drenched in blood.
"The hell you DON"T need a hospital, Sir!" she hissed in a worried tone as she took in the wound. "If your boss did this then I hate to see how bad HE looks!"
Taking off her outer shirt, she pressed it hard against the wound but was thankful to see him passed out for the moment. Ellen appeared at her side and said the ambulance was on its way so Maddie simply nodded her head and then allowed one of the men to take over stopping the blood. Her own nimble fingers went searching for ID and came up with a drivers license with the name of "Andrew Cooper" on it along with several other forms of idenification. It seemed he was certainly a southern gentleman and Maddie couldn't help but note that the blue eyes in the picture where nowhere near as beautiful as they were up close and personal.
Sticking the wallet in her back pocket, the auburn haired beauty moved until his head was resting in her lap more comfortably and then counted off the minutes until the EMT's arrived. Brushing his hair off his face, she muttered a trail of silly things that she later remembered none of and then wondered what on earth she was sitting here holding a strangers head for. It wasn't as if she KNEW him... But that really didn't seem to matter.

The injured hunter sat hunched forward unaware of all the activities happening around him. His mind was overcome by a feeling of complete peace and serenity as he drifted further into unconsciousness. Was it finally his time of dieing? Was it really going to end this way? Andy had experienced the so called life flashing before your eyes scenario before; first during his plane crash in the Air Force and then again when he was shot by his past love. It seemed like it was happening again, but this time he might not be waking up.
There was no protest from the hunter’s now limp body as the young woman positioned herself on the floor and rested his head on her lap. His skin began to change to a much more pale hue from the loss of blood. A few silent moments passed until the caring blondes touch sent him jolting back into consciousness. It was explainable and just the right motivation he needed to keep fighting for his life. Staring up at her with entranced blue eyes, Andrew was able to smile weakly. “Am I dead? This must be heaven…” He muttered out softly while gazing deeply at her. It sounded cliché, but at the moment he truly believed it to be true. The young woman’s beauty was overwhelming to a man in his condition.
“You ain’t dead yet, now shut it and let the EMT’s work on you!” Someone called out from the small crowd that had gathered around.
Breaking his stare with the beauty, Andy slowly lifted his head off her lap and sat up. His blue eyes landed on the faces of the two EMT’s that were already starting to work on him. “I don’t need your help…” He spoke out at the two rescue workers with blinding pride. Ripping off the blood pressure cuff, he quickly used his uninjured arm to help himself up. Alas, Andrew wasn’t even able to get onto his feet before one of the EMT’s firmly pushed him back onto the floor. He let out an annoyed grumble. “Really, you want to go down that road? You better be sure cause’ you push me again and we are gonna have a serious problem.” He warned the other man.
“Sir, we are just doing our jobs. If you refuse to let us help you then you are going to die right here from blood loss. You can put your pride aside for a day and cooperate or we will be forced to sedate you.” One of the EMT’s responded calmly.
Andrew’s eyes narrowed into a glare, he was on the edge and ready to jump off the deep end of self control. “You better back the hell up if you know what’s good for you…” His voice was deep and cold as he revealed a side not often shown. The two EMT’s dropped their equipment and took a few slow steps backwards. Just then that sharp debilitating pain once again overwhelmed the hunter. Gripping his shoulder, he hunched forward and clenched his jaws with a wince. Without even realizing what he was doing, Andy's free hand gently gripped the wrist of the beautiful blond sitting beside him. Her presence was comforting in his time of such immense pain.

Just as the sound of sirens pulled up outside the bar, Maddie noticed the man's eyes flicker and then open. As brilliant blue eyes gleamed up at her, the young woman felt her heart skip a little beat right before he drawled out.
" “Am I dead? This must be heaven…”
"Hush, silly... this isnt heaven.. If it was, we all got jipped!" she entoned softly, brushing his hair back from his face again.
Before she could say more, however, people were talking at once and a pair of EMT's were suddenly leaning down next to the injured man. As they started to work on him, she watched anxiously and then gasped as he tried to sit up and batted at their helping hands. He was well on his way to standing up when one of the men forced him back down and words were exchanged that made Maddie think that blows might be exchanged if someone didn't do anything.
"Andrew... Please..." she said softly just as he seemed to draw inward with a bolt of pain. "Let them help you...."
Feeling his hand on her arm, she took it in her free one and held him against her as the paramedics surged forward. Whispering in his ear, she tried to give him some of her own strength.
"Just take it easy.... If you like... I will come with you.... My name is Madison Sinclair, by the way.... My friends just call me Maddie though. Is there anyone you'd like me to call? Forgive me but when you passed out I checked your wallet for ID in case you didn't wake back up...."
Entwining her fingers with his, the pretty blond didn't stop to think how funny that might seem to him but concentrated on keep his mind off of the EMT's and the pain. He was obviously going to fight them if she didn't keep him under control and she had a feeling that he'd do himself even more damage if he did.

“Andrew... Please... Let them help you...”
The blonde’s soft words didn’t fall on deaf ears. As Andrew turned his gaze back onto his female companion he could see the concern written all over her pretty face and he found it quite troubling. Oh how he disliked causing women distress, especially over something so trivial. His deep blue eyes softened as she took his free hand in her own. In that moment, he had the appearance of a lost puppy afraid of what was going to happen next. The injured hunter was truly at the mercy of strangers, yet he found himself putting all of his trust in a woman he hadn’t even properly met.
Andy kept his attention focused away from paramedics that were now helping to stabilize him for transport. He felt similar to someone who feared needles and was getting an injection; completely unable to watch what was happening out of concern of losing it. Suddenly he heard the young woman whisper softly in his ear. If he wasn’t in such intense pain it would have been a nice turn on. The hunter gave a weak smile in response to her words. “Please do, you’re the only reason I’m even lettin’ them work on me. You’re very persuasive, darlin’.” He said with a soft laugh that soon turned into a wince. “So, Madison Sinclair, that’s one pretty name you got there...” Andrew paused to ponder her question if there was anyone she’d like him to call.
For a moment he considered having Maddie give his parents a call, but that thought soon disappeared when he realized it would leave a lot of questions needing answers. There was no chance his father would settle until whoever hurt his son was in jail. The problem being the thing that injured Andrew was a damn Werewolf and already dead. For a split second he thought about Jessie, but that would just bring up too many bad memories. “Nah, there is no one you need to call. I will be fine and dandy here in a little bit.” He whispered back, unconvincingly. “Thanks for offering though, I appreciate it.” Andy smiled politely.
Letting out a deep sigh, the hunter shifted his gaze to the floor with guilt. “Shoot, I’m really sorry for messing up your evening…” Looking up, Andrew scanned all the faces that continued to watch the drama unfold. “That apology goes to y’all as well.” He hoped the owners of the bar wouldn’t be too pissed when they found out about him bleeding all over their floor and causing such a ruckus.

Madison let out a sigh of relief when the handsome man seemed to relax a bit and let the EMT's work over him. Holding on to his hand, she stayed right beside him as they lifted his body on to a stretcher and then started to wheel him out the door. Her eyes glimmered with concern as she moved with them and then watched as they loaded him into the back of the ambulance.
"WAIT! I"m going with him! Let me grab my purse!" she shouted suddenly only to have Ellen Harvelle shove it at her.
Giving the older woman a grateful smile, she asked.
"Is it all right if I leave my car here? I'll bring a taxi back to pick it up later when I'm sure Andrew is all right!"
SHaking her head, Ellen replied.
"If you got the keys, I will have my son in law bring it over to the hospital."
Beaming at her, Maddie pulled out the keys and handed them to the older woman. She didn't know why but she instinctively trusted the bartender.
"THank you so much!" she called before allowing the paramedic to help her into the ambulance. Taking Andrews hand once more, she leaned down to smile at him and smooth his hair out of his face again. He was very pale and seemed to be in and out of it.
"He's lost alot of blood...." she said worriedly, looking towards the EMT.
"He'll be fine once we get him to the hospital, Miss. Do you have any idea what happened to him?"
Biting her lower lip, the pretty blond tried to come up with something to say and knew that if she told them they had just meet, she would be cut off from all information once they got to the hospital.
"Um... no... we were just meeting at the Silver Bullet..."
Then, glancing down at him, she blurted out the biggest lie she'd ever told and hoped that he was out of it enough not to make a lier of her.
"Andrew and I.... Um.... Andrew and I are engaged! He's my fiance..."
Giving the mans doubtful look a sweet, perfectly innocent one in return, Maddie turned her attention back to the injured man and wondered what the hell she'd just gotten herself knee deep in.

By the time Andrew was lifted onto the stretcher his condition was stable, but still quite critical. As the medic’s began to wheel him away towards the ambulance he slowly glanced back to the spot he was once laying only to see a pool of blood. ‘Well that can’t be good…’ He thought to himself. The hunter was now too weak to even think about putting up a struggle. He was perfectly calm, too calm actually. His wounded shoulder, although tightly wrapped, was still pouring out blood.
Drifting in and out of consciousness, Andrew could no longer make out any of the conversation’s going on around him. It was quite a sad sight to see; a southern gentleman so tough and independent laying helpless and limp. All he was aware of was the sensation of a soft warm hand gripping his own. He knew it was Miss Sinclair and he couldn’t help but hope she would still be around when it was over. That was, if he would still be around.
While the ambulance began the drive to the hospital Andrew regained some sense of where he was. He turned his head and looked at the beautiful blond with a weak yet still charming smile on his face; unaware that she had stated they were engaged. That was when one of the Medic’s questioned what had happened to him. “I was attacked by a… animal.” He muttered out softly in response. It was a lie, which was something the southerner didn’t make a habit of doing, but the truth was much worse.
Just then another wave of intense pain went stabbing down his arm causing the heart rate monitor to go crazy. Clenching his hands into fists, Andy emitted a barely notable groan before completely passing. His body once again went limp on the stretcher and for a moment there was an eerie silence on the heart monitor. The medic’s prepared themselves to assist if his heart and stopped, but to their relief slow beats suddenly appeared on the screen.
“Your fiancé will need surgery to repair his torn up shoulder and a blood transfusion. We already alerted the hospital staff and they are prepared for his arrival. It’s a good thing you were around to calm him down, you two must be very close.” The paramedic said with a smile, hoping to ease some of her obvious worry.
