Holding Maria's hand in one hand...and batting Joey's away as the crazy kid tried to mimic his daughter, Dare stopped in front of his father's townhouse. Man, talk about old memories coming back to haunt a guy's ass...how many times had he stood here with blood on his shirt, looking for some of Pops' aged whiskey after he'd rearranged some enemy's face? Or when he got the dreaded 'call,' when the Butcher thought he'd found something about his son's daily routine that didn't sit right. And since that last one was probably where things were heading...damn, if he didn't have a sinking feeling in the pit of his stomach.
"Will you STOP trying to grope for my hand?!" He growled at his friend, who had tagged along under the pretense of 'body guarding.' Kincaid had found the idea of Joey guarding anyone so funny, that everyone had been a bit afraid that the old guy was about to have a heart attack from laughing so hard. But it was good to know that one person would be in his corner, at least. Even if said person was a computer geek who could kick ass only if it meant mowing a guy down with his car. As Kincaid turned around to glare at them, he urged Joey forward with a solid kick to his butt, and snagged his wife's hand with his now free one. Joey, a kicked puppy look on his face, strolled into the house after Kincaid. "Well, baby," He said to Connie without taking his eyes from the big house in front of them. "I guess we can always rely on my 'weirdness' if any shit goes down. Doesn't this bring back memories?"
That said, he led his family into the gaping mouth that was the front door and followed the old buzzard to the family room, where he knew his father would be waiting.
Connie
Connie stood behind Dare, a scowl on her face as Joey had wedged his way in front of her to stand next to Dare. If Joey wasn't careful, best friend of Dare's or no, she may have to kick his ass. Which she was sure that she could do as Joey wasn't exactly the bad ass fighting type. But she stood quietly, staring at the front door. Trying to keep her thoughts under control. She sighed and looked up when Dare spoke to her. Then she rolled her eyes. "Yeah... memories alright. Can you drown them all?" She shook her head and gripped his hand as he pulled them into the house.
Jimmy - Papa B
Jimmy sat in a plush armchair sipping a scotch, waiting for Kincaid to return with his estranged family. He heard the door open, and a few murmured comments between his son and daughter-in-law. He took a large gulp of his drink and set it down on the coffee table as he stood to greet the motley crew that spilled into his living room. Kincaid, Darien with little Maria at his side, then Connie, and the bundle of energy that was Joey.
A broad smile crossed Jimmy's lips as he approached them. "Thrilled to see you all made it here in one piece," he said, clapping a hand on Kincaid's shoulder in praise. "I should've expected nothing less." His gaze settled on his son, looking like he'd rather jump out a window than have this little reunion. "Ah, Darien. It's been a long time," he said. "I see you and... Constance have reconciled." He didn't normally call her by her full name, but after that little 'incident' involving Darien nearly getting killed because of her, Jimmy's feelings toward her were less than affectionate. His granddaughter, however, that was a different story. He smiled as he crouched down to greet her at eye level. "Maria, how's my little princess? You've grown so much since I last saw you. You have a kiss for your Papa?"
Dare
Dare couldn't help but snicker at Connie's comment as they walked into the house. But whatever amusement he'd had before immediately evaporated as he caught sight of a familiar face sitting so calmly in an chair across from the doorway.
And damn, beat him with a stick until he exploded, when those eyes turned to his wife, it was all he could do not to scoop her up and hightail it out of there. Not to mention that when he crouched down in front of Maria, who eyed her grandfather with a curiosity that would definitely make the Buchannon proud, he was about ready to do the dog pile thing and hustle everyone out. Hell if his father didn't set his teeth on edge, nowadays.
"Yeah, has been a little bit, Pops," He said, keeping his voice light. "Me and Connie met up in Vegas, and y'know, got things rolling. Talked a bit, tried to kill one another, then made up. Normal married stuff." With a sideways glance at Connie, he couldn't help but grin, even though inside, he was just about ready to hit on a full on panic. His hand slid into hers as the distant sound of thunder sounded, and he turned to eye his father again.
Maria, her eyes practically glued to her grandfather's face, didn't seem to be as fazed by the older man's nearness as everyone else did. Even Joey was doing a little 'holy crap dance' in the back of the room, looking nervously from face to face. Hell, in all honesty, he had no idea why he was there. Dare was his friend, sure...but The Butcher? There was a reason why he kept himself to tech support and not to the front lines; that guy was scary as ass, man!
Dare just did his best to ignore the squeaking floorboards behind him, and the friend that was making the noise. If they were lucky, Joey would get shot and they could escape unharmed. "Pops, there's actually something we need to talk about," He said after a minute, watching his daughter reach out and poke Jimmy while saying 'you're my grandpa? You don't look like Daddy.'
Jimmy - Papa B
Jimmy chuckled at Maria's reaction. "No. Your daddy looks more like his mother," he said. He frowned slightly, thinking about Running Wolf. He didn't think of her often these days, mostly because of all the painful memories. He recovered quickly and smiled as he stood and ruffled Maria's hair. He looked up at Darien again, his expression hardened. "Yes, I suppose there is." He glanced at Joey, who was fidgeting in the back of the room, and tried his best to ignore him. "Please, have a seat. Make yourselves comfortable," he said, waving a hand to emphasize the room around them.
Connie
Connie stayed mostly quiet. She cringed a bit when Jimmy called her Constance, just an indicator that things were not the same. She just nodded in way of greeting then watched carefully out of the corner of her eye as Jimmy approached Maria. Connie scooted over closer to Dare, holding onto his arm, her eyes never leaving Maria though.
When Dare started to talk she had to catch herself, she almost said something when he said they had met up in Vegas. When he took her hand she squeezed it a little bit harder than necessary to indicate that he had caught her off guard with that story. They hadn't discussed anything before hand, so she was going to have to follow Dare's lead on that one.
Connie couldn't help but smirk a little at Maria's reaction to Jimmy. You had to love kids, complete honesty and no fear as she met the man that made everyone else tremble. When Jimmy got up and invited them to sit down, Connie glanced at Dare waiting for him to move first.
