Trawling through fanfiction websites is good, contacting authors who might be interested in joining. That's how Gin got me into RPG'ing...

Well, of course, the common way to do this effectively is create a very enticing and exciting ad posted on other sites. I offer to write an ad (I have to be provided with graphics); I have written for another site, so I can make it look good. First impressions do matter. Because this site is new and not many people might know about it, it needs a major boost out there into the wide open.

Actually we already have an advert made by me and the text is from Sibeal. We have already been advertising with it into a few sites.

Yes, I know, that is not the kind of advert I mean. Because for one, to be honest, trying to read the text above might as well give you a headache (although I do love the choice of picture), and for two, it's very short and unclear. An advert is an advert, and it should not be too long, but I am thinking every aspect of ETDMC must be included. What particular features does it have? What does it make a difference, if it does? Why, after all, should a member come? Just because there is darkness and grief and everyone is up the creek without a paddle? Do you know how many sites are with that theme? So it needs a longer description on why it is different than those, and also specify on member activity, admin activity, and emphasize that it is a largely active site. It doesn't matter who does the advert and who paints the picture and whatever, this is for the site and not the person. My opinion is simply that the above advert is not enough; it would not persuade me to join. Don't take this the wrong way, please, Julian, I'm just trying to give my input of things.

You got it all wrong, no one ever said it was about a person and not the site. Just because I mentioned who made it?
Plus it is what an advert should be. As far as I see it, adverts are something that catches the eye and has a concise texts that entice the reader to read more, or in this case to join. Since its an RP, I figure it like the back cover of a book, that should give the basic setting and get people interested in reading it, what I think the text does greatly. In my opinion, lengthy dissertations tend to get people to give up reading it at the middle.
And what get us aside from other sites in my point of view, and we do add it when we post the advert, is that it is a post season 4 RP while other sites concentrate on previous seasons. This give us more artistic liberty. And we do have great and active people here even that its a new site, but that is something I believe one must come to the site and see it for themselves. After all, saying that is easy and lots of sites do so, and when you go there, it isn't quite like that.
But if you have something different in mind, by all means, could you make us a sample of that so we can take a look?

Hey guys,
Let's try not to turn this into an argument. This is supposed to be where people can post their opinions freely about their ideas.
People should not get slammed for stating their opinions or no one will post their opinions ever again.
I think that so far everyone has agreed that the picture and background is very good. Everyone has always commented positively on that.
The text content is good as well in my opinion. Though I agree it is a bit hard to read and I have mentioned that before and it was changed to make it easier to read. Which it IS MUCH easier to read now that it was before. The main issue with the text is I don't think it will EVER be perfectly clear to read because of the nature of the background.
Also just to note that the ad always has links that go underneath when it is posted on a site (or it should have the links when it's posted) that link to different areas of the site.
I don't think Evaline was trying to put the ad down but trying to help us improve it.
Evaline if you have an idea for what you think the ad should say as far as text if you could post it here it would be great.
I also agree with Julian as far as I really don't want the ad to end up as one of those ads that has 10 different sections detailing a lot of information. They just are too long to read (in my opinion) and people don't tend to read them all the way through.
Please though, if you have ideas on some text that you think can help describe the site better please post it here.

I agree with Jo. I think the most important thing is to remember that its hard to tell how someone means something in text talk! That and since we are all from different areas, we sometimes come at things from different directions. Evaline and I have experienced that with plotting Jess and Moritz. We sometimes have a tendency to think of things differently and a bit of clarification helped greatly, at least on my part!

If in my post it appeared that I was making a discussion of it, it passed on the wrong idea. All I was trying to do was express my opinion on how I believe an site ad should be, nothing more.
It doesn't means I'm not open to ideas or anything, quite the contrary.

Don't worry, I understood that. I just felt the need to explain myself. Sooo, does anyone else have any other ideas? This site really needs a boost, it deserves attention!

*snugs Jules* I wasn't meaning that at all, hon! I just know how EASY it is to take things wrong when they are written in text and I ALWAYS have to back up and go "Ok, how exactly was that meant?" LOL *raises hand* I cant tell you all how many times something has been said and I went "Huh? What do you mean by that?" Clarification is always the best way to sort things out. I think its funny how different people from different areas approach the same problem from totally different ways. We don't always think alike but we reach the same point anyways!
