Setting in his huge "office" in the basement of the Silver Bullet, Curse Jordan was going through a virtual arsenal of weapons. Frowning hard in concentration, the sandy haired ex navy seal sighted down the barrel of a new pistol and then tested its weight.
Seeming satified by what he found, he set it down in the wide table and picked up an unusual looking bullet that he and a friend from the military labs had been working on. Made of silver, the ammo had a hollow middle that was filled with a soft metal compound that would heat on the firing of the weapon and explode on impact with its target. The liquified silver inside would then be spread through the blood stream quicker and more effeciently than a normal silver bullet.
Since it had yet to be tested in the field, Curse was working on theory alone. The recent attack on his wife and her friend had him eager to test it however. Whenever he thought about how close a call his beautiful, very pregnant wife had had.... Well, it gave him the chills. He wanted a weapon that would kill a were fast and hard with no errors.

JoJo was behind the bar, but she wasn't doing much good as far as bartending went. She was in a fairly grumpy mood. It had been a few weeks since the werewolf attack, the house was fixed but Jo was still feeling uneasy about things. It didn't help that she seemed to have suddenly exploded as far as being pregnant went. Currently she was frustrated that she couldn't wrap the apron string around her waist as much as she had before. Used to be she could actually cross it in the back, wrap it around the front then tie it off in the back. Now she had to stop and tie it in the front because it wouldn't wrap back around.
Hanging around the end of the bar she was still playing with the apron strings. Glad they actually hired a full-time bartender/manger of the place. Jo was trying to suck in her stomach but it still wasn't going to work, not even close. She finally gave up and shook her head and rubbed her belly a little. It was definitely poking out there, quite a bit these days and seemingly bigger everyday.
Jo sighed and decided to go see what Curse was doing downstairs. He'd been down there for quite awhile now and she was feeling a bit of separation anxiety. Something she had been experiencing since the werewolf attack. Though she tried to not let it get to her and she hadn't mentioned it to anyone. She made a quick detour by the kitchen and grabbed a plate a french fries before she continued on. Food was another constant these days for her. Ever since the morning sickness stopped she was eating all the time.
As usual things in the life of Jo and Curse Jordan were still in a state of craziness. On top of finding out about twins on one doctor's visit, on the most recent check up they had found out she was farther along than they thought. Everything seemed to be moving so fast. Now suddenly she was due in early November instead of early December.
Munching on a fry she headed down the back stairs to the basement. She punched the code into the keypad on the door to Curse's office and pushed the door open quietly. She leaned against the door frame and watched him for a minute. Holding the plate of fries in front of her. "Hey, what are you doing? You mind if I hang out with you? I brought french fries?" Jo spoke quietly and held up the plate of fries for him to see. She smiled at him as she walked farther into the room and let the door shut behind her. Moving so she was standing next to her husband she looked down at him while she nibbled on another fry.

At the sound of movement at the door, Curse glanced up and saw his wife watching him. Giving her a grin, he put down what he was working on and watched as she walked towards him and offered a plate of french fries.
"Hey, what are you doing? You mind if I hang out with you? I brought french fries?"
As she took one and started nibbling on it, the hunter reached out to wrap an arm about her waist and turned so he could pull her between his legs to rest.
"Now Darlin.... You know how much i love food... but... I must say.. Your looking even more delicious. How about I just nibble on you instead and you enjoy those fries?" he drawled before taking the plate and setting it on his work bench. "I'm glad you came down to visit me.... How are things going upstairs? Is the new bartender working out? Or did you come down here cause he was hitting on my beautiful wife and I need to kick his ass?"
Grinning at her wickedly, he pulled her down for a quick kiss and then waited for her to speak. She'd been acting a bit off sense the were attack and he was worried about her. He knew part of her unease stemmed from being pregnant and the inability to do thing things she normally loved but he was worried anyway.

JoJo popped the last of the fry she had into her mouth as Curse pulled her to stand in front of him. As he took the plate and set it down she gave him a half-smile and rested her hands on his thighs. He gave her a quick kiss and then she leaned her body against him. Feeling the need just to be close to him. "Things are fine upstairs, the new bartender is fine. They don't even need me. And NO, no one is hitting on me. I'm friggin' pregnant and getting bigger and bigger and pretty soon I won't even be able to wear this damn apron." Frowning Jo leaned her head on his shoulder. Moving slightly so she was sitting on one of his thighs. She stretched up a little and kissed his neck softly. Then let her head rest on his shoulder again. "I feel useless. They don't need me up there. You're always busy now. I can't do anything. I don't like it." Jo was feeling frustrated a lot lately. She couldn't even work out her restlessness in the work out room in the house. Sure, she could exercise but she couldn't really do what she wanted to. Like beat the crap out of the punching bag that Curse had put up.
So she sat around doing 'housework', sometimes doing research. Even the research wasn't all that fun anymore because she knew she couldn't go out on the hunt. It was depressing. All she felt like doing these days was keep her husband within shouting distance. And that just made her feel helpless and weak. But she knew that she had to be careful. She would never do anything to endanger the babies she carried.
As her mind thought about them she felt something move and her hand automatically went to her belly. She pressed her hand against it a bit harder. A small smile crossed her lips and she lifted her head up and looked at her husband. "Hey... Feel this. It just started." Jo reached out and grabbed Curse's hand, placing it on her stomach. Holding it there and putting some pressure on it. Watching his face to see his expression. "Can you feel that? They are moving around, kicking." It was a pretty amazing feeling. Actually feeling them moving around inside her. She had felt some 'fluttering' movement before but this was the first time she had felt them actually roll around in there. There wasn't anything she wouldn't do to keep these babies safe and being with Curse is where she felt the most secure. She didn't like being away from him these days.

Curse could hear the frustration in his wife's voice but knew of no way to comfort her. Being pregnant was a woman's gift and burden all wrapped into one and there was nothing he could do to ease it except show her how beautiful she was in his eyes. Just as he opened his mouth to tell her that once more, she got a funny expression on her face and then took his hand and placed it upon her stomach.
At the kick of one of the babies, Curse felt his heart flip over and he looked up into her eyes.
"Was that........ Dude, are they suppose to be doing that already?" he asked amazed and worried all at the same time.
Jo smiled and looked up at him. Nodding her head. "Well, it's the first time they actually... uh... moved like that. I think that's a good thing though."
Jo kept her hand on her belly as it felt like something rolling around inside her. "This is the weirdest feeling... I mean. I had this little fluttering feeling before, like butteflies... But they are actually moving around in there. I can feel it."
Chewing on her lip a little nervously... "It couldn't be bad that their moving right? They're just growing, developing. I wish I had the baby book here."
Shaking his head, the handsome hunter eyed her stomach and then smiled.
"Well, I suppose they are just making their presence known is all...." Just then, the cell phone on the work table started playing "Sweet Home Alabama". Frowning, Curse glanced at it and then picked it up. Giving his wife a look, he eyed the number and then flipped it open.
"Curse here." he said by way of greeting.
As another voice came from the other end, the hunter scooted Jo away a bit and got to his feet. Unconciously, he began to pace as the news hit hard.
"When?" was the only thing he said in reply before nodding his head along with whatever information he was recieving.
"Give me 48 hours and I'll be on my way."
Taking the phone away from his ear, he closed it with a click and stood with his back to his wife for several long moments. When he finally did turn to face her, his face was drawn and there was a deep worry there as he meet her eyes.
"Darlin..... Something has come up.... I'm going to have to leave for a few days."
Before she could ask any questions, he held up a hand and moved closer to her in order to pull her into his arms.
Placing a kiss on the top of her head, he struggled to find words to explain what was going on but knew he couldn't tell her anything without endangering her.
"That was one of my former commanders.... Theres a problem.... and I might be the only one who can fix it. I'm going to have to meet with him and figure out what can be done to stop a diplomatic disaster."
Jo moved out of the way when Curse got up. She moved over and leaned against the table. Folding her arms across her chest as she watched her husband start pacing.
A questioning eyebrow was raised and soon turned into a furrowed brow as she narrowed her eyes as Curse's tone and demeanor shifted.
Her eyes followed him as he moved... He was mostly listening so Jo didn't know what was going on. But his body language was telling her it wasn't good.
A worried look crossed her face and her jaw dropped a bit when she heard him say "Give me 48 hours and I'll be on my way." What the hell was going on. Where was he going?
Finally he took the phone away from his ear and put it away. Jo faced him, her arms still folded and her defenses up. She wasn't going to like this she could tell. He started talking before she could say anything. So she just looked at him and listened.
"A diplomatic disaster? What the hell does that mean? How long are you going to be gone?" Jo blinked her eyes a few times. Her homonal emotions kicking in a little bit.
She didn't like the idea of Curse going away. She took a deep breath and tried to calm herself as she leaned against him and wrapped her arms around him.
"Darlin.... You know what I used to do in the military... Special operations are my specialty. I'm a logistics expert and able to move in and out of places without being seen. That is what has made me so good at being a hunter too. Now.... Something has happened and the government needs my help again. I can't tell you the details because if I did... It could be dangerous for you and the babies. No one can know where or why I have gone... Its got to be a secret, do you understand? I hate like hell to leave you like this but this time it can't be helped. A few of my fellow seals are in trouble and I may be their only hope of getting out alive...."
Pulling back to look down into her eyes, he cupped her cheek and continued.
"I should only be gone a week... two at the most.... I'll be back home before you know it. I can't turn my back on my comrades though.... They would do the same for me if I was ever in trouble."
Jo sighed as he continued on and tried to explain. One one hand she understood and if the circumstances weren't as they were at the moment she would probably be telling him that it was fine. That she knew he needed to go. But right now she wasn't feeling that way.
"Your telling me could put me and the babies in danger? I was attacked by a friggin' werewolf. We're in danger all the time. I thought you were done with all this?" Her tone had turned a bit angry.
When he touched her cheek and looked at her she stopped talking. She had a lump in her throat and swallowed hard and was chewing on her lip again. Blinking her eyes a few times but tears started to fall anyway.
"A week? two weeks? ... I... damn it. I don't like this." Jo turned and walked away from him. moving back around to the other side of the table and slammed her fist down in frustration.
"I HATE this... I know you need to go... But... what if something happens? I need you." She didn't know what else to say. She sat down in the chair that Curse had been sitting in when she walked in. Putting her head in her hands tears of frustation still falling down her cheeks.
Growling in frustration of his own, Curse ran a hand through his sandy hair and watched his wife. He had known she wasn't going to take this well but what choice did he really have. There were just some things a man had to do and there was no way he could turn his back on his friends. Whether in the military anymore or now, he still had ties that went deeper than meer friendship. If he was ever in trouble, he knew he could count on them to help out and it went vice versa.
"Jo... I wouldn't go unless it was absolutely neccessary. I don't like this any more than you do."
Moving towards her, he knelt at her feet and took her hands.
"You know I love you and I'm committed to you.... If you say you don't want me to go.. I won't go... but I can't say that it won't go against everything I am and believe in."
Jo sat back in the chair as he moved in front of her and held her hands. She was feeling too much all at once right now. Trying to gather her thoughts together.
Quietly she spoke to him. Trying to regain her composure. "I know... I know.... I just don't know what to do. What am I supposed to say? I'm scared?"
She took a couple more deep breaths and squeezed his hands. "I know you would go if you didn't have to and I can't ask you not to go. I wouldn't do that. I know it's important. I just don't want to lose you. I love you. You make me happier than I've ever been. All these things I never thought I wanted in life... It's all different now."
Jo wasn't sure if she was making sense to him. She felt like she was babbling. But the truth was he had changed her life. She had lost so many people she cared about in her life and she was afraid of losing him too.
"I never really thought I'd be a wife, a mother. I always wanted to be a hunter. You changed all that. I don't want to lose it."
Squeezing her hands, Curse reached up to lift her chin.
"You aren't going to lose it... I'm not going anywhere... As soon as this is done, I promise... No more missions. Conrad wouldn't have called if it wasn't important but I'll make sure he knows this is the last time. All right?"
Then, standing up, he pulled her into his arms and hugged her.
"I'm going to call Lexi and Max and tell them whats going on... I want someone looking in on you while I'm gone... And I'll check in with you as much as I can... There will be a day or two where I will be out of cell service but I will call as soon as things are over."
Jo clenched her jaw. She was just trying to keep it together without falling completely apart. One minute they were having a special moment, the babies first movements and the next things turned to shit and Curse had to go off on some "mission".
"I know you have to do this. It's ok. You wouldn't be you if you didn't. It's part of who you are. Part of the man that I love. It doesn't mean I have to like the idea of you going away though. Knowing you're going to be in danger."
When he pulled her up and put his arms around her she buried her face into his chest. Holding onto him tight as he talked about calling Lexi and Max. She nodded her head. "Just... be careful OK. Try not to worry about me. I'll be fine. You just need to stay safe and come home to me. We'll be waiting for you. We're going to be a family soon and these babies need their daddy. OK?"
Holding her close, Curse buried his face in her hair and sighed.
"You bet, Darlin.. You bet. There is no power on earth that will keep me away from you or our babies..."
