With one hand steading Max, the other opened the door to the Blair home. Bobby then hitched his shoulder under the younger man's un-injured arm, half carrying, half guiding him into the house.
The only reason Bobby needed to help Max in was because the medication had started to take affect during the drive from the Emergency Room. The road rash and other damage wasn't all that serious. Bobby had seen much worse after a hunting expedition. So he wasn't worried. That was the reason Max was coming home now instead of staying over night at the Hospital like the over cautious doctor wished: A little motorcycle accident wouldn't keep the hunter down long.
The day had started more promising than it has finished.
A few weeks ago, Bobby's old high-school friend had sent Bobby two VIP tickets to a local event. It seemed that the man's son was the leading contender for the World Speedway Championship this season and was understandably proud of the fact.
Bobby had casually mentioned he had the tickets at dinner the other night. Lexi had immediately decided that Bobby and Max needed some 'Male Bonding' time together that didn't include guns, salt and holy water. She insisted they go. Not wanting to argue with a pregnant woman, the two men had gone.
While in the pit area watching the preliminary races, it was mentioned that one of the races was open to any entry as long as the rider had never placed in a professional race. Bobby wasn't sure who or what had given Max the idea, but before too long: Bobby, Bruce and Devin were helping Max get ready for his race. A race that didn't end quite the way they had hoped it would.
Lowering the man onto the couch, Bobby stepped back patting his pockets looking for the small green bottle of pain killers, he had picked up at the local pharmacy. Setting them on the table near by he asked. “Need anything besides a glass of water before I go?”
But the sound behind him made him realize he probably wasn't going anywhere soon.

At first, the sound of the front door opening and closing didn't register in her sleep clogged mind. The sound of cautious steps and low voiced did, however. Coming violently awake in the recliner of the family den where she had been curled up watching "The Notebook", Alexis Blair knew immediately that something was wrong. Getting clumsily to her feet, she padded as quietly as a heavily pregnant woman could towards the front room. Reaching the wide entrance into the living room, she was just in time to catch Max's wince of pain and Bobby's words.
“Need anything besides a glass of water before I go?”
With eyes widening, Lexi took in her husbands ravaged appearance and the guilty look that spread over his face before turning her glare upon the man she thought of as a father.
"WHAT IN TINKS GARDEN IS GOING ON HERE?" she practically snarled before crossing her arms and looking at them both like a pair of naughty children caught with their hands in a cookie jar. "Why on earth does my husband look likes hes been run over and back up on by a mack truck and you looking as if you'd rather be anywhere but here explaining things?"
Marching forward, Lexi plucked up the bottle of pain meds from the table, took in the label and actually growled. Turning her glare on the two men, she took a deep breath and then blew it out.
"I thought you were going to a race? This looks more like you tangled up with some hunt and it went south in a hurry."

Male bonding…Max always preferred the female’s company, but knowing that Bobby was like a father to Lexi, he had to agree. Not that he had anything against the old man, in fact he held a great respect for the man from all that his wife told him about his past and his personality. And besides, watching some motorcycle racing with the man might be fun…there could be no harm in that, right?
And then, when it was said one of the races was open for the public to join, Max off course jumped at the chance. He had the old adrenalin addiction luring him in, and the young hunter had been playing the responsible guy for so long that he could hardly remember the last time he done something like this. With his wife pregnant, he had given up hunting and had stayed away from anything risky. Now however, it was impossible to resist.
Speeding through the course was something that made him feel really alive. He could feel the adrenalin pumping through his veins and he loved that feeling. Now Max was the competitive sort, in order to win he wouldn’t care on taking many chances that a regular person wouldn’t take, and that was the reason to why he ended up being thrown from the bike and into the ground harshly. Luckily nothing was broken, but it still hurt like hell. And yet, Max was still laughing when Bobby dragged him to see a doctor.
A sprained ankle and a tweaked back, a few scratches and bruises here and there, nothing major. It actually looked worse than it really was, though not by much. Still through the pain and the drugs that they had given him, it was difficult to walk, and Bobby had to help Max reach the living room.
As the older man helped him seat down in the couch, Max heard the sound of someone approaching. It was too late to be Ben, the boy would still be at home and the footsteps were too light to bee Betsy.
Yeah…Lexi was going to rip his head off.
“Need anything besides a glass of water before I go?”
Turning to face his wife, the dark haired man took in her features, yeah, she would definitively rip his head off.
"Why on earth does my husband look likes hes been run over and back up on by a mack truck and you looking as if you'd rather be anywhere but here explaining things?"
Max gazed back to Bobby. “You could save me from her?” he asked with a playful smile trying to lighten the moment and smooth things over. But it was obvious by the look on Lexi’s face that he wasn’t getting away with just a charming smile and a witty remark.
“It looks worse than is baby, we went to the race and I got a chance to race. It was just a little mishap with the bike, nothing more.” He admitted a little embarrassed.

The tone of voice Lexi was using had Bobby quickly running through his inventory of possible safe places to sleep tonight. The bed in this house might not be all that safe.
The older man heard the playful words “You could save me from her?” but knew the younger one didn't really think it could be done.
“I don't think Holy Water works on women possessed by babies and thats all I got handy right now.” Bobby said as he gave Lexi a sideways look. The Hunter would rather be facing a few demented ghosts right now than this one girl.
“It looks worse than is baby, It was just a little mishap with the bike, nothing more.” Bobby nodded his agreement, Then added, “Doc said he could go home. Didn't need t stay overnight. You know how cautious doctors are. They wouldn't have let him come home if he was really hurt.” Bobby hoped that Max didn't mistakenly let the medication get to him and blurt out that the doctor really had wanted him to stay, but had been over ruled by the two hunters.
“Come on Lex honey, you know that even a hunt that hasn't gone south, can cause more damage than this.” He gestured at Max on the couch. “He'll be up and about in three days, tops, two is my guess.” Bobby added as he gave Lex the same smile he had given her when she had been 17 years old and worried about some trivial thing that would right itself without her interference.

Lexi wasn't a complete fool. She had known that the pair of them would be getting into SOME sort of trouble before the night was out. However, having her husband come home looking like road kill hadn't entered into the equation.
“You could save me from her?”
"NO!! No, SIR! Pops is NOT saving you from me! This one is all on your shoulders. I'll be having words with him later!"
Sending her "father" a look that promised retribution, the blond sighed.
“It looks worse than is baby, It was just a little mishap with the bike, nothing more.”
Supressing a snort, Lexi arched a brow and shook her head. Moving to her husbands side, she eyed him ruefully for a moment.
"A LITTLE mishap?? If this is a LITTLE mishap, I'd hate to see a major one." she said half heartedly as she leaned over to check him out.
“Doc said he could go home. Didn't need t stay overnight. You know how cautious doctors are. They wouldn't have let him come home if he was really hurt.”
Standing up, Lexi put her hands on her hips and tapped her foot.
"You don't SERIOUSLY think I believe that one do you? I know Max... He wouldn't have stayed in the hospital unless they strapped him down and tranqed the crap out of him. I'm amazed that they didn't actually. He could have had a head injury or something."
“Come on Lex honey, you know that even a hunt that hasn't gone south, can cause more damage than this.” He gestured at Max on the couch. “He'll be up and about in three days, tops, two is my guess.”
Sighing in exasperation, the pretty blond looked from man to man and then started laughing. She couldn't help it. They both looked so guilty that she relented a bit.
"Yes... I'm sure he will be... but I'm not going to baby him. Hes on his own in that department. I can barely get myself together these days so ..... If he needs anyone to wait on him.... Thats your job, Pops."
WIth that said, the smug blond turned towards the door. Padded a bit wobbly towards the doorway, she continued.
"Might as well bring him into the bedroom.... A good night sleep will make him feel better than anything else and that couch isn't real comfortable."

For a minute there Max believed she might skin him and POPS. She was really upset although he couldn’t really fully understand the reason. She knew all about his daredevil ways long before they got engaged didn’t she? And he would be alright in no time.
Still it was never a good idea to upset a hormonal pregnant witch, was it? And it probably wouldn’t be wise to say it then, but he believed that she looked really sexy when she was angry. While she was around Max did his best to not show her any sign of pain, but once she left his features revealed his pain.
And he would still have to deal with Betsy in the morning, although he doubted it would be as scary as angry Lexi, he already dreaded Betsy’s tea.
Pushing himself up, Max tried to ignore the pain but the meds were doing a great job of making him dizzy and had him holding to Bobby’s shoulder to prevent himself from falling to the ground.
“Ok Pops, I think I might need your help in getting upstairs…but if you hear me screaming during the night, it probably will be Lexi’s skinning me alive.”
Ok, If Lexi or Betsy didn’t kill him, Bobby might for that little Pops joke. It will be a miracle if Max lives through the night to face the housekeeper in the morning.

Bobby nearly collapsed in relief when Lex started to laugh, She wasn't going to stake him though the heart while he slept, like a bad vampire movie, after all. ”I'm not going to baby him. If he needs anyone to wait on him.... Thats your job, Pops."
The older hunter frowned at that statement, 'She wanted 'him' to be Max's nurse?' “Uh Lex?” he started to say, but she continued as she walked away. "Might as well bring him into the bedroom.”
Giving a shrug that said, 'Well how hard can that be?' Bobby turned to steady Max as he swayed a little getting off the couch. “Ok Pops, I think I might need your help in getting upstairs…” Bobby gave a small snarl of anger and started to shake the hand from his shoulder. Pops? but he restrained himself: the man was injured and while it wasn't directly his fault, Bobby knew that Max wouldn't have been on the bike if they hadn't gone to the race together.
”If you hear me screaming during the night, it probably will be Lexi’s skinning me alive.” as they moved through the bedroom door Bobby growled very low so only Max could hear “And I won't stop her because you called me Pops and if she don't skin you, I will next time you try it.” He looked up and gave Sweet Alexis a huge, dazzling smile, letting her know everything was going to be just fine.
Once Max was on the bed he figured his task was done, he wasn't going to undress him. That was his wifes job, pretend Nurse or not, Bobby drew the line there. Making his way out of the room he called back, “Lex, if you do decide to kill one of us during the night please kill him first. I want to know that he went before me.”
The hunter felt something sail past his head and thump gently on the door frame. It was a pillow, but he wasn't sure who threw it but his money would be on Lex. “Night Night Brat, Good Night Max” and then he was clear to find his own room.

Shaking her head at the pair, Lexi followed and then watched as Bobby made his escape. Picking up a pillow, she tossed it at his retreating back and called out.
"COWARD!!!"
Still snickering a bit, she turned back to her husband and shrugged at the look he was giving her.
"Well... He can run faster scared than I can mad so......"
Moving ackwardly around the bed, she climbed on to the mattress and eyed him ruefully.
"Your going to feel like hell tomarrow.... Good thing I'm not a weeping willow or you'd really be getting read the riot act."
Reaching across him, she took up the bottle and dumped two pills in her hand and held them out.
"Down the hatch, buster....... And then you can tell me just what you two were up too..."

Max knew Bobby hated to be called Pops, but his reaction was too funny for him to just let that chance slip by. Obviously the old man wouldn’t throw a punch at him in the state he was. Shaking his head, Max gave him a playful smirk. “Man…everyone is so moody tonight!”
Sure he had gotten worse before while hunting, but it wasn’t to say the pain was a pleasant sensation regardless. Still, while growing up Max and his brother liked to think of themselves as the though guys, who didn’t complain about the pain and that trait had followed him in adulthood.
With some help of the older hunter, he managed to get upstairs and take a seat on the bed next to Lexi. A quick smirk trailed his features as he watched his wife throw a pillow at Bobby. She was in a better mood already to say the least.
Taking the pills she gave him, he gulped them down and pulled himself on the bed so that he could rest his back for a moment while they talked.
“It went like I told you Lexi. I got into a race and when I made a particular sharp turn…the bike didn’t follow me on that. It’s just a few bruises and I will limp for a while, but I will be fine in no time.”
Leaning forward, he gave his wife a smile and a kiss. Trying a charming smile hadn’t worked before, but maybe a kiss with it might do the trick. At least he hoped so.

Supressing a snort, Lexi plumped the pillows and leaned back in them next to her handsome husband. Her eyes twinkled as she gazed over at him and then felt the baby give a hard kick as if in agreement. Rubbing her tummy absentmindedly, she reached out to gently touch one of the burns.
"Its fine, Max... Really, its not as if you haven't been chomping at the bit to find some mischief. I dont expect you to play it safe all the time, you know.... Even though i'm pregnant, I still find all this inactivity stiffling. I'm sure its doublely so for you...."
Then, rolling on her back, she stared up at the ceiling.
"Maybe... Maybe you, Bobby and Curse should do some hunting. I mean.... I actually invited Bobby to stay with us because I think we might be looking at a vampire problem in New Orleans. While Jo and I can't really help hunt them... we can help out of research and it would give us all something to focus on...."

So the kiss and charming smile didn’t work…Max was worried that he was losing his touch. Either that or he had used that tactic on his wife one too many time and she wasn’t letting him off the hook so easy this time.
However when she started talking about hunting, Max raised a brow. Was she serious? His hero complex made him itching to go hunting, lately those days his heroic deeds were limited to find strawberry or brownies in the middle of the night. But he knew that if he set out on a hunt while his wife waited at home with the baby, Lexi was going to kick his ass. Maybe he was wrong?
“Are you sure about that? With Bobby and Curse’s aid, I believe we three would make a good hunting time, but you’re ok with standing back with Jo? We can’t risk our little one getting hurt before it’s even born.”

Smiling a bit at the concern she heard in his voice, Lexi cuddled closer and laid her head upon his chest. She struggled to find the words to make him understand how she felt.
"Baby.... One of the things about you that I fell in love with was the fact that you were a hunter. It is part of you and who you are. Your not going to be content to sit at home and play house while there is evil in the world that needs taken care of. Neither will I for that matter.... You need that thrill of excitement and I don't expect you to be like your brother and settle down into business. That just isn't you and its not the man I fell in love with."
Drawing loose circles on his chest with a finger, she was silent a moment before continuing.
"I figure... there has to be a happy medium. I'm sure there are things around this area that need hunting and as long as your here when I need you... I don't have a problem with your hunting. In fact, when the baby gets older... I'll probably want to join you now and then. I just don't want you doing it alone... that is the big thing I guess. Now that Curse is around..... well, I think it will be alright. Jo and I can do the computer work and you boys can do the leg work...."
Pushing herself up, she leaned on an elbow and gave him a soft smile.
"I love you, baby.... I just want you to be happy and this leisure life isn't doing it.... I can feel your restlessness and it hurts me too..... I think a bit of hunting would do you good...."

She knew him too well, and it was obvious that beside he had tried to not let it show, that she could read him like an open book. Max couldn’t think of a woman that could ever be more perfect for him.
Pressing a kiss to her forehead, he smiled to her. “Baby, have I told you recently how much I love you?”
He knew she didn’t like the idea of him taking risks or getting hurt, but she cared enough for him to not try to hold him down and change him. If it was possible, he would love her even more because of that.
However there was one detail that he wasn’t completely happy with and it would be difficult for him to adjust. It might be selfish, but he didn’t like the idea of her hunting. He knew she could take care of herself, but the idea of her getting hurt worried him beyond measure. And now that she was carrying his child, if something was to happen to her, Max didn’t believe he could be able to raise the kid without her. Hell, he doubted he could go on without her even if they weren’t going to have a kid. But how could he voice such concerns to her without sounding like a jerk?
He would have some time to adjust at least before she would be dragged back into hunting.

Smiling at her husband, Lexi nodded and curled close.
"Love you more...." she whispered before laying her head on his chest again and sighing. As the day caught up, the young woman yawned and grimaced as the baby kicked again.
"Man... I will be so glad when the baby is born! I swear, if his antics in the womb are any indication of his future.. I may be old and grey before I'm 30. I think hes taking after his father with his dare devil acrobats..." she mumbled sleepily.
As a companionable silence fell over the couple, Lexi's eyes fluttered once, twice and then closed in sleep as she drifted off into the dark abyss of sleep.
